The thought had spread through her body like blood through water, the sharks of doubt and exhaustion circled each time the water grew calm. Every time she stopped stroking the hours away like waves and tread water in careful smooth parabolas they would brush her legs with their sharp, cool skin and nick at her feet with sharp, mean teeth.
You have no time, they’d say.
You missed the deadline, they’d hiss.
You’ll do this forever. And ever.
For weeks she’d been listening to them until her feet were bloody and swollen, her fingers pruned and her hair tangled. Her arms were tired of their ceaseless arcs, her legs weary.
Her vacation approached like a ship in the night - so far away at first that she blinked her eyes free of salt and water tears, unable to believe it was really coming. As it loomed large in front of her, the surf from its rudder buoyed her feet and her spirits, churning her along.
The only blood in the water belonged to the sharks, churned under. She was alone and on her way, dry and happy.
{Darling readers – late late Wednesday night I’m stealing away from this place and making a run for it. I’ll be in Toronto for five days with no agenda or plans other than to love, eat, dance and watch with eyes and heart wide open. Would anyone care to suggest shark-less places to paddle?
Where do you eat? Dance? Drink? Laugh?}

Yay yay. Toronto is all I know. It’s very wanderable but the easy suggestions would be :
If you’re feeling meaty, The Hoof Cafe is pretty epic. Little India, neighborhood-wise, heats up at night and is somewhere unique not many Torontonians go. Victory Cafe is a good place to hit if you want to consume the various local brews on the cheap. Mitzi’s is one of the best for brunch.
But yes, suggestions aside, it’s a great place to just walk around. Follow the throngs of people. Eat a hot dog if you have to. They’re better than in New York.
Have a lovely time – it sounds like you will
Have a wonderful time!! I’ve never been to Toronto so the only place I know is where one of my friends works: Beer Bistro =)
Good luck out there I hope your feel heel up and your hair untangles.
ps- I MISS YOU LIKE MAD and can’t wait to hear about everything when you come back!
Have fun, eh!
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
(sounds about as ugly as it looks)
Also, I was thinking because you’re bringing pie tins and such, you could save room by not bringing shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc because I am full up on that stuff. And, you’ll be pleased to know, it now borders on the commercial side of natural so it all actually works
Can’t wait, buttercup!
xo
