There are moments that do not look like they should feel.
There are moments that your heart will alter; you will remember the feeling of a warm hand on your hip and the taste of salt, not the sunburn blaring from the photo. Your heart will see the photo and forget the million bugs and the lost sunglasses, the paper cuts from folding maps, and only remember the taste of lemonade.
There are moments that do not feel like they look.
There are moments that your memory will alter, blow it out with light or saturate the colors. You will be thinner, you will smile, you will be more tanned. The grass will be greener, the sky bluer. You will remember it with a haze, with sunspots. You will get everything in the frame, in one beautiful shot.
This little series is an attempt to combine what I’ve been seeing, and what I’ve been feeling. My sister gifted me with a found double package of long expired yet perfect polaroid film that produces photos so much closer to what my heart sees than my eyes. Yet my eye is still concerned that my heart is missing something, and I nervously take another with the digital.
These are photos where I get to reconcile the two; where I can put lighthouses where my memory will feel them, where I can feel his hand on my back even if I can’t quite see it. Memories I can feel with my eyes, and pictures I can see with my heart. xo
